“Since joining our synchronized skating organization as an assistant coach, Bonnie has provided support for my daughter and her teammates in a way that has melded well with the existing team culture and helped yield results. She is talented, focused and perceptive, and understands what makes the whole group tick – proof to me that she is well-suited to the field of integrative social work.”

She's a good listener, comes up with thoughtful and creative teaching methods, and has helped me figure out how to not be weighed down by obstacles. integrative services

Bonnie’s holistic approach to clinical social work has been inspired by her extensive career as a figure skater and figure skating coach. Her ever-evolving passion for yoga practices is also an extension of her years of experience on the ice. Bonnie's growth as an athlete, coach, clinician and yoga instructor has allowed her to build on her recognition of movement and mindfulness as a healthy form of expressing the thoughts and feelings that surface with life successes and challenges. Her attention to the body-mind-breath connection informs her integration of yoga, breathwork and meditation in social work treatment, education, professional development and athletics.

Clinical Social Work and Yoga

Bonnie integrates yoga practices in the psychotherapy she provides her client-base. Yoga, meditation and breathwork are tangible tools that clients learn to practice in the therapeutic space and apply to daily life. Bonnie has collaborated with University of Connecticut's Graduate School for Social Work to explore and advocate for Integrative Body-Mind-Spirit Social Work as an emerging framework in clinical practice, academia and research.

Yoga for Professionals

Trauma exposure, vicarious trauma and burn-out are real and serious concerns for helping professionals. Bonnie's awareness of these experiences encourage her to connect with a variety of professions and offer yoga practices as a healing modality to address such concerns and create sustainability in the work world. Bonnie has connected with organizations such as the Manhattan Court for Innovation and African Services Committee, facilitiating self-care workshops in an effort to bring peace, calm and focus to the professional mind and body.

Yoga for Athletics

Athletics is a powerful, often competitive, and demanding space in which growth and development take place for individuals and communities. Athletes can experience physical and mental challenges in the competitive sports world. Yoga is a practice that supports injury prevention, strength training and greater flexibility. It is also a practice that cultivates focus, calm and peace. Bonnie integrates yoga into off-ice training for figure skaters and other athletes to assist in developing a healthy relationship with the body.

Bonnie uses clinical skills to coach participants in developing healthy interpersonal communication skills, embracing creative techniques and awakening a teams mission and vision.
